How many categories of health insurance exist?
Health insurance is divided into:
- Bronze plans (60% coverage)
- Silver plans (70% coverage)
- Gold plans (cover 80%)
- Platinum plans (cover 90%)
Under the Obamacare law, however, silver plans are now covered up to 94%, with the government subsidy on that metal.
What are health insurance co-payments?
Co-payments are the fixed payment responsibility a client has for each service. For example: $10 for a primary care physician visit.
How is the deductible applied to health insurance?
The deductible is money that the client must pay in advance, before the coverage starts to work. It is the client's upfront payment responsibility, before co-payments, it is always advisable to have a low deductible or zero deductible to avoid high out-of-pocket costs.
Can you enroll outside of the health insurance enrollment period?
You can. That is, if you qualify for an eligible event:
- Marriage
- Divorce
- Arrival of a baby
- Moving
Loss of medical coverage
Does applying for Obamacare affect my immigration status?
No. Obamacare does not affect your immigration status. Under President Trump, the concept of public charge was established and it was directed primarily at Medicaid and food stamps. In contrast, it never affected people who received Obamacare. On the other hand, USIS no longer applies this concept of public charge.
Why do I have to declare income on the Obamacare application?
In order to apply to the Obamacare insurance marketplace you must meet the income requirement. In this sense, you must match what you declare in the policy and what you declare in your taxes. The less income a person generates the more credit he/she receives, and the more income a person has the less the credit and the more expensive the health insurance.
